Development of the Korean Version of the Panic Disorder Severity Scale
±èÁ¤¹ü/Jung Bum Kim
Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the reliability and validity of Korean version of Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS), a brief, multidimensional, clinician rating scale to assess overall panic disorder severity.

Methods: Fifty eight patients with DSM-¥³ diagnosis of panic disorder with (PDA) or without agoraphobia (PD) for psychometric evaluation, were evaluated by the 7-item PDSS, Panic & Agoraphobia Scale (P&A), Fear Questionnaire-agoraphobia
subscale
(FQ&Ago), Albany Panic Phobia Questionnaire-agoraphobia (APPQ-Ago), interoceptive subscale (APPQ-intero), Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS), and Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI). A subset of 24 patients underwent two independent assessments to
establish
inter-rater reliability. Test-retest reliability (n=24), internal consistency, concurrent and convergent validity were also determined.

Results: The PDSS was associated with excellent test-retest reliability (r=0.96, p<0.01), inter-rater reliability (r=0.88, p<0.01) and internal consistency (Cronbach's ¥á=0.89). Individual items showed good concurrent and convergent
validity. PDA
was higher in the PDSS total score than PD and female group was higher in the PDSS total score than male group.

Conclusions: The Korean-version PDSS in a simple, efficient way to rate severity in patients with established diagnoses of panic disorder.
